This is a "treasure" coin recovered in 1986, 176 years after being lost aboard the Admiral Gerdiner, which was bound for India with these coins for payment to workers in Bengal and Madras. The ship sank in a severe storm, carrying with it seven crew members. The coins were tightly wrapped and stowed in secure wooden casks, a total of 48 tons, and thus were preserved from the effects of salt water.

This coin was the work of designer Anthony de Francisco and was selected by the Fine Arts Commission. It commemorates the declaration of peace between the United States, Germany, and Austria and exchanges of peace treaty raitifications made in Berlin on November 11, 1921, and in Vienna on November 8, 1921, with peace having been proclaimed by the President of the United States on November 14 and 17, 1921, respectively.
